HIV self-testing means that a person can do the test themselves using a mouth swab and get their results right away(no needles!). This means they do not have to go to a facility, clinic or doctor’s office.
Everything with a self-test is done by the person testing, where they want and when they want, including connecting to care and prevention services as needed after testing.
It is important to note that if these initial self–test results are positive, you can book “confirmatory” test at our labs or talking to our peer navigators on the Health Connect Jamaica app. A self-test—while highly accurate—is a screening test and will always need to be confirmed by a lab test.
Be sure to visit our Before you take a test page for information that will help prepare you to take the test, and for more information.
